Features for Teachers

To assist teachers in using Beyond Books, the website offers lesson plans, correlations to state and national standards, study questions and activities for classroom use, and useful tips and strategies for teachers.
  • A variety of classroom-tested lesson plans is available in the Teacher Door area. These lesson plans are organized by academic discipline and subject area.

  • A list of correlations is also accessible in the Teacher Door. This list details how Beyond Books programs align with both national and state standards. Correlations are arranged alphabetically by state and by academic discipline.

  • Each page of a Beyond Books program is accompanied by a set of study questions. Access these questions by clicking on the purple button "Study Qs" on any program page. An answer key (if available) also appears when a user is logged in as a teacher.

  • Some Beyond Books programs (such as Reading between the Lines) contain online activities. Students can complete a writing exercise or other activity online and submit their work to their teacher. Teachers can use these activities in the classroom or as homework assignments. In addition, most Beyond Books programs are supplemented with interactive features that students can use in class or at home.

  • The Your Desk feature allows teachers to manage their classes' use of Beyond Books. In Your Desk, teachers may set up classes, accept online submissions from their students, and view visit logs of their students' usage of the Beyond Books website.

  • The Teacher Door also contains a user guide, strategies and useful tips for classroom use of Beyond Books, teacher guides to selected programs, and links selected for teachers. These tools can help teachers get the most out of using Beyond Books and the Internet in the classroom.
