Philadelphia, PA — In a national competition of over 700 education-related websites, District Administration presented Beyond Books with a 2002 District Administration Web Site Award. This national competition recognizes the education companies and organizations that host exemplary websites for curriculum applications to benefit K-12 schools. Beyond Book's online content received a Premium Award for its high-quality content and active-learning platform.

"This award is a testament to the quality and depth of our online content used by teachers and students," said Jonathon Schmalzbach, Vice President of Educational Content. "We are thrilled and honored to receive this award."

In their letter, District Administration stated, "This year's winners offer the most complex and comprehensive applications for today's school districts and students." Each site was reviewed and judged in four categories: 1) quality and appropriateness of the content; 2) quality of the instructional design; 3) quality of the interaction with the learner; and 4) creative and effective use of online technologies. The publication announced their winner in the February edition.

Beyond Books is an interactive, online source of educational curriculum for grades 6-12 in social studies, science, language arts and literature, and various electives. The programs provide teachers with a wealth of aggregated content designed to supplement classroom materials to serve as the primary resource for building lessons. Beyond Book's active-learning platform brings topics to life by complementing text with audio recordings, video footage, online activities, and resources.

Beyond Books launched its first program, "American History: From British Arrival through British Departure," in the fall of 1998. Today students in 48 states and 10 countries representing more than 2,500 schools have accessed Beyond Books programs. These programs aligned to state and national curriculum standards and feature original and award-winning text, cutting-edge multimedia presentations and interactive activities, links to thousands of reviewed websites, and are developing a full complement of teacher resources.
