 | Beyond Books Teacher Door: Strategies with no computers in the classroom |
- Use as Homework
- Identify those students who have at-home online access and those who can use your library or media center.
- Develop research assignments (as you would from the textbook).
- One example would be to allow students to select a Focus area to do a report for class presentation. As different students will choose different topics, you bring a multiplicity of views and subjects into your classroom.
- Have students work in teams by Focus topic. Be sure each team has access either at home or other means, such as the public or school library.
- Research
- Encourage students to use the resources available in Beyond Books, including its search functionality, when doing class-related research.
- If your library has internet access, use Beyond Books as another resource your students can use in your library of media center.
- Develop specific assignments for your students to complete in the media center, library, or at home. Direct students to use Beyond Books as a resource.
- Portable Labs
- Some schools are purchasing portable wireless laptops. If these are available, sign up to use them with Beyond Books in your classroom.
- Since you will not likely have them for an extended period of time, use them to introduce your students to Beyond Books and to get them started with an activity or assignment.
