For teachers: how to set up classes

Why set up classes in Beyond Books?

When your students enter a student registration code and set up their own Beyond Books access, they will be asked to choose their class(es) from a list of classes in your school. Your students will gain access to the correct Beyond Books resources only when they enroll in a class that has access to those resources.

Besides "turning on" Beyond Books access for your students, creating classes in Beyond Books allows you to receive homework assignments via the website and to track your students' use of Beyond Books.

How to set up a class

At the end of the registration process, click on the "Add a Class" link at the bottom. You can also add a class later by going to Your Desk, clicking on the "Your Classes" tab, and clicking on the "Add a Class" button. You will be taken to the class setup screen.

  • First, enter a name for your class. This should be a name that both teachers and students can recognize.

  • Next, choose the grade level(s) of this class by selecting the check box beside the appropriate grade level.

  • Select the discipline of this class from the six Beyond Books discipline areas: Social Studies, Science, Literature and Language Arts, World Languages, and Electives.

  • The subscription information for your class is in the lower part of the screen.

    • You will see a list of available programs or packages and the number of seats available in each. Select the check box(es) beside the program(s) or package(s) your class will be using only if they were purchased for your use. Otherwise you may unintentionally use up a subscription purchased for another class. If you need more information about the subscription your school has purchased, contact your purchasing department.

  • Click on "Create Class" to save this class and add it to your school roster. Now your students will be able to join your class from the Your Desk area.
