If you want your computer to read aloud the text from webpages, look into the following audio reader options.
- Macintosh computers: Text-to-Speech is built into the newest Macintosh operating systems. If you don't already have this software, visit this webpage to install Text-to-Speech.
- Windows computers: An outstanding program is available for free, with an enhanced version available for a modest cost. For more information, visit ReadPlease.
- Online audio reader: Bell Labs has a website that will convert text to speech over the Internet. Because the program has to transmit the sound file across the Internet, there may be a delay in processing. Visit Bell Labs Text-to-Speech Synthesis.
- The website of the Adaptive Technology Resource Centre at the University of Toronto contains a good discussion of text-to-speech.
