Instructions for the purchaser of a school subscription

If you have initiated the purchase of a Beyond Books subscription for a school, you should receive an e-mail containing registration codes. These are eight-character codes used to set up Beyond Books access for teachers or students. If you have received these codes, please distribute the teacher registration code to your teachers. All teachers and students at your school who wish to access Beyond Books must complete the registration process. Refer teachers and students to the sections "Teacher registration" and "Student registration" for instructions on how to use the registration codes.

When giving out these registration codes to other members of your school, please remember that only teachers should receive the teacher registration code; do not give it to students or allow teachers to give it to their classes. Students should use the student registration code.

As the purchaser of this subscription, you already have a user name and password, which will also appear in the registration e-mail. However, your user name and password provide administrator access only. To use teacher tools and to set up classes, you must register as a teacher. Please follow the instructions under "Teacher Registration" to add teacher access to your existing user name and password.

About the registration codes

Each school has a unique pair of registration codes: a teacher registration code and a student registration code. These codes are school specific and can apply to any number of distinct orders placed for that school. The teacher registration code grants access to tools and website areas just for teachers.

Registration is the process by which users (teachers and students) establish access to orders purchased by a school. Administrators must also register to obtain teacher access and use teacher tools.

Tips and hints for schoolwide registration

  • Teachers may instruct students to register during class time or teachers may print registration instructions for the students and have them complete the process outside the classroom. Mass registrations may cause computer performance slowdowns at your facility. You may want to limit the number of simultaneous registrations.

  • Some schools may wish to choose their students' user names. We recommend that you do not choose students' passwords. To insure that students cannot guess others' passwords, allow each student to choose his or her own password.

  • Schools and institutions that have an established network or information system may request that Beyond Books user names and passwords match those used on their network. Automated registration is a service that requires technical support from the network administrators of both parties. During automated registration, only user names and passwords are created; teachers must still set up classes and students must still select their classes.

Administrator registration (to add teacher access)

If you have initiated the purchase of a Beyond Books subscription for a school, you should receive an e-mail containing the user name and password you entered during the subscription process. You may use this user name and password to access Beyond Books as an administrator. However, you will not have access to teacher tools or be able to set up classes as a teacher. To add teacher access for yourself, please follow the teacher-registration process and enter your existing user name and password.

Teachers and students at your school must complete the registration process to establish their own access to the Beyond Books program titles in the school's subscription. For detailed instructions for teachers and students, please see "Teacher registration" and "Student registration."
