  • The Geneva Bible: The Forgotten Translation
    owlowl______Visit http://reformed.org/documents/geneva/Geneva.html
When King James commissioned a new translation, he explained, "I could never yet see a Bible well translated in English; but I think that, of all, that of Geneva is the worst." What was this "Geneva Bible," and why did James dislike it so? The authors of this site, unabashed fans of the Geneva translation and its Calvinist leanings, suggest that the King might have felt threatened by some of the earlier translation's commentaries. It was, after all, written by English exiles who had fled a queen who was burning Protestants at the stake.

His translation of the Bible was used by the King James translators more than all of the other previous versions combined. Find loads of attractive pages with biographical sketches, graphics, primary documents, and portraits of his friends and enemies at this extensive site devoted to Tyndale and his accomplishments.
jump to http://www.williamtyndale.com/0biblehistory.htmThe History of the English Bible While the King James Version of the Bible eventually became the most important English translation, it was certainly not the first. Beginning with John Wycliff's manuscripts in the 1380's, there were about 6 major English translations before the KJV came off the printing press in 1611.
