| | Querido Dad, ¡Hola! ¿Cómo estás? I am about to board the train back to Madrid after visiting El Escorial, the royal monastery about 50 km northwest of the city. It was built in 1557 by King Phillip as a tribute to San Lorenzo (Saint Lawrence). The fountains, towers, 43 altars, 1,200 windows, pipe organs, and huge library are really impressive, but my favorite is the royal mausoleum. Each king and queen since Philip II is buried there! A little creepy, but definitely cool.Tu hija, P.S. By the way, you'll never believe this, but I tried calamares again and I like them now! Who knew?
