- Alexander in India
      Alexander the Great led his army all the way to India and fought one of his greatest battles there. At the river Hydaspes, he defeated the fierce army of Porus, which fought from atop elephants. After this victory, Alexander wished to continue further into India, but his army spoke up against it and peruaded him to begin journeying homeward. This site describes Alexander's adventures in India.
- Project X 1497-1999
      Vasco da Gama discovered a way to get from Europe to India, and his findings brought a whole new influence to the South Asian world. An interactive "journal" of da Gama's voyage is provided here. Click on the big X to get started, and enter the world of exploration. Almost every word or phrase is clickable, leading to more information such as maps, definitions, poetry, and more. Much of the text is taken directly from da Gama's real journal.
- Indian Mutiny
      Whether called the First War of Independence, the Sepoy Rebellion, or the Indian Mutiny, the conflict of 1857 marked a great change for both the Indians and the British. This very detailed website provides information on topics ranging from the causes of the early uprisings to the war's aftermath. The two years of violence are well described with text and paintings depicting the events of the conflict.
- Manas: History and Politics, British India
      Since the days of the East India Company, Britain has had a significant influence on India. This website presents the history of British India with links to articles discussing Robert Clive, the Black Hole of Calcutta, the East India Company, and the Battle of Plassey. Pictures complement the interesting text.
- The Battle of the Jhelum
      The Battle of the Jhelum, also called the Battle of the Hydaspes, was a colossal event. In 326 B.C.E., Alexander and his troops stormed India via the river Jhelum. On defense were Porus and the Indians, mounted on an estimated 200 elephants. The battle was fierce but Alexander's troops won the day. This battle is one of the most famous in Indian history. At this middle school student's site, read accounts of the battle and the days preceding it.
