    A woman's place is in the kitchen? anyone who suggested that to Shagrat al-Durr, might have found himself headless or worse. Shagrat al-Durr was the first female sultan of the Delhi Sultanate. She also happened to be one of its most ruthless rulers. Taking the reigns from her deceased husband, Shagrat battled off the armies of France. After remarrying, she remained the "true" ruler and eventually murdered her new husband to remain in control. Although her acts were questionable, many regard her as a hero and a model for strong women everywhere.
