It's no coincidence that when we talk about the Web, we talk about surfing. On our cyber-boards we perform supersonic cutbacks and stunning aerials over the global waters of the Internet. The waves of the World Wide Web spike our adrenaline and send the blood pumping through our veins with their dazzling color, light, and sound. We rip the surf from Honolulu to Timbuktu with points and clicks.

And, believe it or not, in the process:

  • We learn.
  • We have fun.
  • We make friends.
  • And we do it all without getting our feet wet.

It's breathtaking and mind-boggling.

But the water's deep out there, and with all that high-tech terminology like "gigas," "googles," and "gophers," it's easy to get disoriented and wipe out. Just like any good surfer in choppy waters, you must practice to get it right and have a good time. There is a lingo to learn and equipment to master. Don't get left behind with the land sharks.

Things can get a little crazy in the computer industry, as Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates discovered one day in Belgium.
Take a little time to learn all about the amazing stuff that has made some folks very, very rich and popular and the rest of us cyber-surfers extremely happy. Have a look at how you have a look at the Web — through your Web browser. Don't shred blindly — use a search engine to catch the perfect wave. And always keep in touch with your crew — e-mail covers the world for nary a nickel.

So what are you waiting for? Go grab a board. Surf's up!
